Sorcery

Elsa wasn't a witch. She was simply, born different. Gifted.

When she was young she would use her magic happily by herself where no one would see. Her magic almost seemed to have a life of it's own, so it was almost like her only friend before her sister was born. And when Anna was born, she loved Elsa's magic as well. Elsa would indulge her with midnight snow days and snowmen inside that wouldn't melt.

Then one winters day she used her powers in front of the other kids in the village. They loved it as well.  They played in her winter wonderland all day...Until one of the kids parents came by and saw. They gathered all the children away from Elsa and her sister and ran to report what they'd seen to the village elders. The village people felt conflicted about the idea of killing an eight year old girl, so they decided that perhaps if they simply removed the source of her magic, she would become normal. They decided they would remove her hands, not knowing that her magic was a part of her, and not just channeled through her hands. Luckily though, Elsa's parents managed to break her out of her temporary imprisonment and escape the village with what little they could take with them.

That was when Elsa started to fear people.

They settled in another village, far away from the first, and they were doing well. Elsa didn't use her magic anymore, afraid someone would see and try to hurt her again. Akthar and Idunn didn't spend a lot of time in the main village either, staying close to their children and only dealing with the townspeople when they needed to. Many thought them to be strange to be so secretive. Others thought they were hiding something.

One man thought that perhaps they had things of value they were protecting, and broke into their house one night to see if he could steal it. Unfortunately, Elsa had been awake getting a cup of water, and when the man rushed forward to try to make sure she didn't yell for her parents, she screamed, dropped her water and raised her hands to protect herself.

The next thing she heard was his cry of pain, and she looked to see spikes of ice, jutting out of the floor in front of her like a shield and piercing him through his shoulders, arms and legs. Nothing fatal, but he was injured badly. Akthar had to take him into the village for treatment.

No one seemed to care that he had broken into their house to steal from them, that he had threatened a ten year old girl. He was seen as a hero for revealing the danger within their village and for surviving such a vicious attack.
The Arendelle's once again had to flee the village as fast as they could to prevent anyone from trying to hurt Elsa.

That was when Elsa started to fear her powers.

It was years again before trouble stirred up again. It was the hottest summer their village had ever seen, and Elsa, now nearing her eighteenth birthday had come across an old man, collapsed on the ground from the heat. He was weak, and there was no other way around of cooling him down. Elsa could tell if she didn't do something, the man would die.
So she shed off her gloves, and created a thin bed of snow around the man, and chilled the air around him. Slowly, he started to recover.
He didn't thank her. As soon as he was able, he rushed off to the town leader and labeled Elsa a witch. Soon the whole town was crying for her to be burned. And once again, the Arendelle family had to run.
