They had thought they were safe from the Titans. That the walls would forever keep them out. They believed that living inside of a proverbial cage was an acceptable way to live.
They were fools.
The day that the Burgess district was taken, humanity received a grim reminder, that they lived in fear of the Titans.
Elsa and Anna never saw the horror of the Titans. They were princesses, safe within the innermost walls of civilization. But they saw the fear on the peoples faces. They heard the tales. Neither of them were fragile flowers to be hidden away in a glass cage. They wanted to do something to help. To protect their people. They begged their parents to let them join the military.
Of course, they were refused. There was no way the King and Queen would allow their precious daughters to put themselves in such danger.
Eventually though, they settled on a compromise. The girls would be allowed to train under aliases. They would learn the skills necessary to survive, should the walls be breached, but would not join any section of the military after graduating. The girls grudgingly agreed. There would be much time between now and graduation though. Perhaps they could find a way to help their people more in the meantime.
